On Saturday, Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Algiers Folk Art Zone & Blues Museum will host the fifth annual Algiers Folk Art Festival. A showcase of regional folk art, the free event will feature artists’ tents, live musical entertainment, and food-truck concessions.
Among the artists featured are Charles Gillam,Sr., Karen LaBeau, Andrew Hopkins, Dianne Baquet, Beatrix Bell, Jennifer Blanchard of Nola Pottery, Eddie Gillam, Jeannie Tidy, Paul “Jaw Bone” Douroux Jr., Devin Dewulf, Steve Seneca, Chris Grisaffe, Destiny Fields, Vincent Hall, Kristen Arnold, Larry Nevil, Jamar Pierre, and Cely Pedescleaux.
Musical performers include legendary blues guitarist Little Freddie King, zydeco/blues musician Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes, Bob Green of the Green River Band, McGregor, and kids music by the Confetti Park Players.
Radio personality George Ingmire will emcee the event.
Children’s arts & crafts will be provided by Mini Art Center, a family friendly studio and gallery for children to make art, and Confetti Kids, a non-profit organization that helps maintain neighborhood playgrounds and hosts kid-friendly events in Algiers Point. Concessions will include specialty items by New Orleans’ area food trucks, plus beer, wine, and soft drinks.
Funds raised will be used toward enhancing the Zone’s programming and facilities as well as creating initiatives for increased visibility to self-taught artists.
“The event is meant to make the community aware of the many artists working locally,” says festival organizer Charles Gillam.
